Dr. J.M.(Chema) LAGARON

Group Leader in Biomaterials and Nanotech at CSIC

  • Chema has a MSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Polymer Science, both from the University of Valladolid (Spain).
  • Chema is the Group Leader of the Novel Materials & Nanotechnology Department of the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA) of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC).
  • He is a Professor of Materials Science at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Design (ESID) of the University Jaume I in Castellón, Spain.
  • As an entrepreneur, Chema is the Founder of the Nanotech SME NanoBioMatters Group
  • Chema published more than 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals, several books and book chapters and generated over 20 patents in nanotechnology.
    – He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Applied Polymer Science.
  • President of the Spanish Section of the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) and Board member of the Plastics Group of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics and Chemistry.

VP Business Development

  • Lars studied Chemistry at the University of Oldenburg, Germany and holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Southampton, UK.- He is a senior business executive with solid technical and commercial expertise in all aspects of the semiconductor capital equipment industry.
  • For the last 20 years he worked in roles of increasing importance at providers of process and process control equipment including Horiba, Phasemetrics, Carl Zeiss and Nanometrics.
  • His professional life took him to work in The Netherlands, France and the USA and he speaks the respective languages fluently.
  • In 2007 he followed his entrepreneurial instincts and founded his first start-up company Nanda Tech GmbH in Germany, his country of origin.
  • In 2012 Lars successfully sold Nanda Tech to his former employer Nanometrics.
  • Since then he has been involved with Bioinicia.
  • Lars has 10 patents to his name.


  • Poli is an Industrial Engineer by training (Polytechnic University of Valencia).
  • He held positions as Operations Manager in Rogu Group in the metal-mechanic sector and as Deputy Manager at ARPPE GROUP, a textile company.
  • Since 2004 he worked in the health sector, first in a biomedical company as National Sales Manager for 4 years and then as CEO for 2 additional years, in 2010 and 2011 as Factory General Manager in Surgival, Co. (COSIAS GROUP).
  • During this time he complemented his education with numerous courses in the field of biomedical engineering and business management.
  • In 2012 he joined Bioinicia.


  • José Manuel is an Industrial Engineer by training.
  • He brings extensive experience in operations and plants management to Bioinicia.
  • As an European Technology Manager for Rohm & Haas he coordinated productivity enhancement ans supply chain optimization projects across different plansts in Europe.
  • As plant manager for Dow Chemical’s powder coating division he was responsible for the Castellon plant (100 personnel, €6,5M budget, €42M sales).
  • In his last position he acted as COO for nanomaterials company NanoBiomatters S.L. in Valencia where is was responsible for restructuring the manufacturing operation, scale-up of manufacturing capacity, plant and equipment design and ISO 9001 implementation.
