Wound care

Wound care products can also benefit from the use of electrospun fibers. Not only do electrospun materials provide barrier properties to protect against bacterial infection, whilst allowing the passage of moisture, the fibers can also incorporate functional ingredients such as antimicrobials, or even sensing compounds which change color to indicate if a wound is infected. The flexibility of electrospun materials also means that they can conform to the wound surface. Fibers can be electrospun from hydrogel materials, which absorb fluid from the wound, or even from bioresorbable materials, which do not require removal.
